The baritone Carlos Varela Hernani (Calvià, Balearic Islands, 1999) is a Galician singer, since after his birth in Mallorca he returns to Galicia where his family is originally from, beginning his piano studies at the Conservatory Manuel Quiroga of Pontevedra where he graduated obtaining the Extraordinary prize. Later on, he studied at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Vigo and at the Conservatorio Superior del Liceu de Barcelona, where he arrived following his piano teacher Josep Colom, graduating with the highest marks (2022).
In the vocal field, she is especially interested in opera and lyric repertoire as a chorister highlighting her participation in Macbeth (2018) or Falstaff (2022) in the seasons of the in productions of the Asociación Amigos de la Ópera (Vigo), as well as in concert as the mass for the closing of the Holy Door in the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela or Mozart’s Requiem at the University of the Galician capital.
Once she finished her piano studies, she continued to explore the lyric repertoire, beginning her first singing lessons with the soprano Anna Feu (2023) during the Elvira de Hidalgo Summer Course, a turning point after which she decided to return to Barcelona to study the higher degree of singing at the Conservatory of the Liceu.
In 2025, he attended the second year of singing at the Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu with a scholarship from the Ferrer-Salat Foundation and since his admission he has participated in various musical events as a member of the Conservatory’s student choir, as in the Misa Criolla by Ariel Ramírez (Sagrada Familia) with Pasión Vega and David Bisbal (2023) and collaborating in other ensembles such as the Francesc Valls Choir (Barcelona Cathedral, 2024), the Polyphonic of Puig-Reig (Palau Sant Jordi) in the concert of Andrea Bocelli (2024). He has received master classes from the countertenor Xavier Sabata at the Centro Superior de Arte de Eòlia (2023), in addition to debuting two lyric roles as Avi Castellet in the zarzuela Canción de amor y de guerra by Martínez Valls, with the orchestra Ars Simfònica Jove and under the direction of Josep Maria Sauret (2024) or in October 2025 with the role of Schaunard in La Bohème at the Teatro la Farándula in Sabadell, after being selected to be part of the 28th Sabadell Opera School.
