The soprano Iria Goti (Ferrol, 1997) began her musical career studying cello at the Xan Viaño Conservatory of Ferrol. Although he always liked singing, it was not until he was encouraged by one of his teachers that he began to take it seriously and, once he discovered the world of singing, he was captivated by it. He has been studying music and later singing since he was 7 years old. First in his hometown, then at the Escuela Superior de Música de Cataluña (ESMUC), at the Royal Academy of Music in London and finally at the Centro de Perfeccionamiento del Palau de Les Arts in Valencia.
The soprano Iria Goti has had teachers of great prestige in the world of opera, both for their quality as performers and in the training of singers. During her higher studies she has worked with the Spanish sopranos Enedina Lloris at ESMUC and María Bayo at Les Arts and during her time in London with the British soprano Marie Vassiliou and the German-Australian baritone Marcus van den Akker.
Goti is aware that opera is a long-distance race, with a long apprenticeship, which cannot stop and forces him to improve day by day. As she commented in an interview in Atlántico (Vigo’s newspaper) on the occasion of her operatic debut as Micaela in Bizet’ s Carmen in November last year, “It is true that natural abilities also help, but it takes many years of effort to enter the professional world. You have to build a career, distinguishing yourself from the rest. There are many good singers and it is very complicated”. She herself emphasized the idea of taking on a broad repertoire where, in addition to singing, she has to play the character, participate in stage movement and even dance: “I love being able to get into a different person in each play, for me it’s not representing a character, it’s changing personality”.
Among the characters she has already performed are Barbarina(Le nozze di Figaro) and Illia(Idomeneo) by Mozart and Lesbina from Il filosofo di campagna by Galuppi at ESMUC (2020-2021). With the Royal Academy of Music in London she played Suzel from Mascagni’s L’amico Fritz, Susanna from Le Nozze di Figaro and Marie from La Fille du régiment (2021-2022). Finally, at Les Arts de Valencia he has returned to Mozart with Papagena from The Magic Flute, as well as Trujaman from El Retablo de Maese Pedro and Maguelonne from Pauline Viardot’s Cendrillon (2023-2024).
During the 2024-25 season he plans to make his debut at the Teatro de La Zarzuela in the Zarza project with the characters of La Menegilda and Vivienda Turística de La Gran Vía de Chueca y Valverde.
Goti has also won important singing competitions, including the first prize in the V Chamber Music, Singing and Piano Competition of the M. I. Academia de la Música Valenciana (2024) and the first prize at the V Concurso Nacional de Canto Ciudad de Albacete in 2023, as well as the first prize at the XI Concurso Internacional de Canto Germans Pla de Balaguer, in 2023, among others.
