The Colombian mezzo-soprano Yeraldín León has studied singing at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía, at the “Alfredo Kraus” Singing Chair of the Ramón Areces Foundation, with Professor Susan Bullock, having received, in 2021, the Diploma of most outstanding student of her chair.

She received her first training as a mezzo-soprano at the Universidad Central de Colombia with Alejandro Roca and Camila Toro. In addition, she has received master classes from Teresa Berganza, Sarah Connolly, David B. Philip, John Graham Hall, Francisco Araiza, Iris Vermillion (as part of the Santander Music and Academy Meeting), Adrian Thompson and Anne Sofie Von Otter. She was a member of the Opera Workshop of the Universidad Central, where she played the roles of Tierra in the opera Los elementos by Antonio de Literes; La Condesa, in Los dos Fígaros by Saverio Mercadante; and La Opinión Pública, in Orfeo en los infiernos by Jacques Offenbach.

He has been part of the Crescendo creamos ópera program of the Teatro Real in Madrid. There he participated in the concert Fantasma que canta no espanta with a varied program of opera arias. She has also performed the role of Amneris from Verdi’s opera Aida for the Teatro Real Junior Orchestra; all this in the main hall and with the Joven Orquesta de la comunidad de Madrid-JORCAM. In addition, he recently interpreted the cycle of Spanish Songs by Shostakovich for the Enfoques Cycle in the framework of the Madrid premiere of the opera La Nariz by the same composer.

He had his first leading role in El Gato con Botas by Xavier Montsalvatge, at the Teatro Colón in Bogotá. In 2017 she won the second prize in the Youth Category of the Colombian national singing award. In 2018, she participated as a student in the master classes of the Cartagena de Indias International Music Festival and performed as a soloist in Kurt Weill’s opera Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny, as one of Mahagonny’s women, in the co-production of the Colón theaters in Buenos Aires, the Municipal theater in Santiago and the Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santo Domingo. She also sang the role of Orphan in the Colombian premiere of Richard Strauss’ Der Rosenkavalier . More recently, he has played in the closing concert of the XI Festival de Otoño Música en la Casa de las Flores, at the Royal Palace of La Granja de San Ildefonso, organized by Patrimonio Nacional.

On the other hand, he has been a soloist in orchestral format with works such as Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy with the National University of Colombia Symphony Orchestra. In Spain, he has sung W.A. Mozart’s Requiem with the Orquesta Sinfónica Ciudad de Elch and Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater . As a student of the School, she has performed as a soloist in the recitals of Jóvenes Talentos Banco Sabadell, at the Teatro Real in Madrid.

She won second place in the Training Category of the City of Bogota Singing Award in its 2017 version and honorable mention in the Excellence Category in the 2018 version. She has also been a finalist in the IV singing contest “Compostela Lírica”.

Yeraldín León renewed the scholarship with the ÓPERA ACTUAL Foundation during 2024.
